Karmine Corp Completes 0-5-to-Champion Turnaround, Downs Team Liquid 3-1 in EMEA Grand Final

Karmine Corp completed one of VCT's most dramatic mid-season turnarounds, defeating Team Liquid 3-1 in the EMEA Stage 2 Grand Final to win the organization's first-ever VCT trophy — a run that started at 0-5 in Stage 1 and ends with KC as EMEA's top seed for Champions Shanghai.

Karmine Corp is the VCT EMEA Stage 2 champion, closing out Team Liquid 3-1 in Sunday's Grand Final to win the organization's first trophy at the VCT level. The result caps a run that started at 0-5 in Stage 1 and ends with KC as EMEA's top seed heading into Champions Shanghai.

What Happened

The veto set the tone before a round was played. KC used its double-ban advantage to strike Split and Abyss — maps that suit Liquid's identity but that KC itself had avoided in Stage 2. That left the series to be decided on KC's pick of Sunset, TL's Ascent, KC's Lotus, and TL's Summit, with Haven sitting unused as the decider.

The Evidence: Map by Map

Map 1 — Sunset (KC pick) (KC pick)
KC 13 - 7 TL

KC ran its established Omen-Viper structure, with N4RRATE on Chamber and LewN on Neon. Liquid was playing Sunset competitively for the first time since 2025, and it showed early — KC jumped to a 6-1 lead before Liquid clawed the half back to 6-6. The map was decided on KC's defense side, where the team allowed almost nothing, closing out 13-7.

Map 2 — Ascent (TL pick) (TL pick)
KC 13 - 6 TL

Both sides entered unbeaten on Ascent in Stage 2, with mirrored double-Duelist identities — KC ran Phoenix-Neon, TL countered with the same Phoenix-Jett composition that had worked against FUT Esports a day earlier. KC's defense side broke the symmetry, going 8-4 despite dropping both pistol rounds. A five-Classic eco conversion on attack tilted the map fully in KC's favor.

Map 3 — Lotus (KC pick) (KC pick)
KC 7 - 13 TL

KC came in 5-0 on Lotus in Stage 2, but Liquid found its match here. Kicks and kamo each finished the map with 23 kills as Liquid limited KC's usually dominant attack side to just five rounds. It was the first sign in the series that Liquid could generate momentum, and it set up a reverse-sweep attempt on Summit.

Map 4 — Summit (TL pick) (TL pick)
KC 13 - 10 TL

Liquid opened with a 7-0 run by attacking A almost exclusively, taking a 7-5 half lead. KC stabilized by winning the pistol and anti-eco to open the second half, then took over — LewN led KC's attack while N4RRATE and SUYGETSU exploited gaps in Liquid's defensive setups. KC closed it out from 12-10, securing the title on its fourth match point of the round.

The Analysis: Why Karmine Corp Won

KC's advantage was structural before it was mechanical. Removing Split and Abyss forced the series onto maps where KC's habits were more established and Liquid's were less tested — Sunset in particular, a map Liquid had not played competitively in over a year. That decision alone shaped three of the four maps played.

Individually, the gap was defined by consistency rather than one standout stat. dos9 finished the series with a 9.40 rating and a team-high 230 ACS, but VALOINFO's full box score shows the story was broader than one player.

The head-to-head between the two MVP candidates captures the series in miniature — Liquid's best performer matched KC's stat line in isolation, but KC had three players operating at that level, not one.

The clearest sign of where the series broke was purp0's line: a team-worst 4.20 rating, 39 kills against 65 deaths, and a series-worst first-death count of 21. Liquid's flex/support role was on the losing end of engagements at a rate that no individual highlight — including Kicks and trexx's strong Lotus — could offset over four maps.

The Veto Advantage

KC's double ban on Split and Abyss forced the Grand Final onto Sunset, Ascent, Lotus and Summit — maps where KC held a stronger recent record than Liquid. That single pre-match decision shaped three of the four maps played.

What It Means

This is Karmine Corp's first VCT trophy and its first EMEA title since Kickoff 2024, which the org won without a physical trophy on the line. It also completes one of the more unusual turnarounds the region has produced — a team that finished 11th-12th and 0-5 in Stage 1 went 4-1 through Group Omega and a perfect 3-0 through the playoff bracket to close Stage 2.

Grand Final
Defeats Team Liquid 3-1
KC wins its first-ever VCT trophy and becomes EMEA's Stage 2 champion.

Individually, the run matters most for dos9, whose Grand Final MVP performance follows back-to-back 0-5 group stages with BOOM Esports in 2025. LeWN reaches Champions for the first time after narrowly missing the international stage with BBL Esports last year, and SUYGETSU picks up his first title since Masters Copenhagen. Head coach ZE1SH, in his first split leading the team after joining as a player in 2022, also lifts his first trophy with the organization.

What's Next

Karmine Corp heads to its first-ever Champions event as EMEA's top seed. Team Liquid, despite the loss, still qualifies for its second consecutive Champions appearance in Shanghai next month. This was also the final EMEA event under the format the region has used since 2023, meaning both teams' Shanghai runs will open the next structural chapter of the region.
