MIBR and G2 Esports Survive Elimination as VCT Americas Stage 2 Lower Bracket Opens
Share:

MIBR and G2 Esports both won 2-1 series in Lower Round 1 of VCT 2026 Americas Stage 2 Playoffs, eliminating Evil Geniuses and FURIA — even though the single best-rated player in each match ended up on the losing side.

Both matches followed a similar shape: a tight opening map, a response from the team that would go on to win, and a decisive third map that settled things. And in both series, the standout individual performance — by rating — belonged to a player on the team that lost.

MIBR opened the veto phase by banning Summit; Evil Geniuses answered with a Split ban. MIBR then picked Lotus, EG countered with Sunset, and after MIBR banned Abyss and EG banned Ascent, Haven fell as the decider.

Evil Geniuses took the opening map on their own account — Lotus went to overtime and finished 18-16 in EG's favor. MIBR responded immediately, closing out Sunset 13-10 and then Haven 13-9 to take the series.

EG 18 - 16 MIBR

The only map of the day to reach overtime. EG needed extra rounds to close out MIBR's own pick, a sign of how even the opening exchanges were before the series swung MIBR's way for the remaining two maps.

Individually, the match's best-rated performance belonged to Evil Geniuses' zerona, who finished with a 9.50 rating and 242 ACS across the series and was named the match MVP. MIBR's aspas was close behind at 9.40 rating but with a higher series ACS of 276, the highest of anyone on either roster. Mazino was tagged as EG's "Catalyst" with 30 assists and 77% KAST — heavy playmaking output that didn't translate into a series win.

The stat that didn't decide the series

Evil Geniuses' zerona posted the single highest rating in the match (9.50) and the team's MVP tag — and still lost. MIBR won by out-performing EG everywhere else on the roster, not by having the single best player on the server.

Paincakes' 39 assists and 84% KAST were the highest support numbers on either side, and supamen's 81% KAST was similarly high-impact — but Evil Geniuses' bottom of the order, particularly bao at 6.40 rating and a team-worst -13 +/-, gave MIBR enough separation across the full roster to win the series despite not having the match's top individual rating.

G2 Esports 2-1 FURIA

FURIA banned Lotus and G2 banned Split in the veto. FURIA picked Haven, G2 answered with Sunset, FURIA banned Ascent, G2 banned Summit, and Abyss was left as the decider.

FURIA controlled the opening map comfortably, winning Haven 13-8. G2 leveled the series on Sunset (13-10) and then took total control of the decider, closing out Abyss 13-5.

Map 3 — Abyss (decider) (decider)
FUR 5 - 13 G2

The most lopsided map of the day. After splitting the first two maps, G2 pulled away decisively on the decider, more than doubling FURIA's round total and closing the series out with room to spare.

Individually, G2's trent was named MVP with a 9.40 rating and 227 ACS, but the more notable number was his +20 individual round differential — the best of anyone in either match on this day — built on an 87% KAST rather than raw kill totals. FURIA's Shyy actually posted the higher series ACS at 249 with a 9.30 rating, and valyn was tagged G2's "Catalyst" with 22 assists and 77% KAST.

Efficiency over volume

G2's trent finished with the same 53 kills for 33 deaths across the series but an 87% KAST and a match-best +20 individual round differential — a profile built on rarely being a non-factor in a round, rather than on raw first-kill numbers (he finished with only 3 FK to 2 FD).

The gap at the bottom of FURIA's roster tells its own story: COM's -28 individual round differential was the single worst mark of the entire day across both matches, and artzin's -8 alongside a 60% KAST left FURIA short-handed once G2 found its footing after the opening map.

What's next

MIBR and G2 Esports both advance within the Lower Bracket of VCT 2026 Americas Stage 2 Playoffs; Evil Geniuses and FURIA are eliminated from the event. Their next Lower Bracket opponents had not been determined by the official bracket at the time the underlying match data was captured.
