G2 Outlasts a Brilliant kiNgg, LOUD Sweeps a Shorthanded-Looking MIBR

VCT Americas Stage 2 Playoffs trimmed its Lower Bracket by two teams on August 31, with G2 Esports eliminating Leviatán in a back-and-forth three-map series and LOUD closing out MIBR in straight maps without needing a third.

Leviatán controlled the veto, banning Lotus and Ascent while forcing Abyss and Sunset out of contention, and it looked like the right plan early. LEV took their own pick, Split, 13-10 to open the series. But G2 won the following two maps — Abyss 13-9 and Summit 13-8 — to close it out and send Leviatán home.

The individual numbers tell a more complicated story than the scoreline. kiNgg finished the series with a 9.40 rating and a series-high 229 ACS — the single best statistical performance on either team — and G2's trent matched that 9.40 rating from the opposite side despite posting a lower ACS (202), largely on the back of a team-leading +11 plus/minus and 74% KAST. That's a case where raw scoring wasn't the deciding factor: trent's consistency and round-impact outweighed a bigger stat line elsewhere on the server.

The gap shows up more clearly at the bottom of each roster. LEV's spike put up an aggressive 14 first kills but died 53 times overall and finished at -19 plus/minus, the worst mark of the match. On G2's side, jawgemo had a similarly rough series — 10 first kills against 14 first deaths and a -14 plus/minus — but it wasn't enough to offset the rest of the roster the way spike's numbers were for LEV.

In the second match of the round, LOUD didn't need a third map to eliminate MIBR.

Both maps LOUD won came by an identical 13-10 scoreline, on MIBR's pick (Lotus) and LOUD's own pick (Sunset) — meaning LOUD closed the series out without their opponent taking a single map, even the one MIBR selected in veto. The Abyss decider was never played.

lukxo put up the loudest individual number of the match — a 255 ACS series-high — but erde's 9.50 rating edged him out for MVP on the strength of a better KAST (74% to lukxo's 67%) and a stronger plus/minus. On MIBR's side, Mazino actually out-ACS'd every LOUD player not named lukxo (235 ACS) and still finished on the losing side, a reminder that raw scoring doesn't map cleanly to series MVP voting — round-level consistency does.

The clearer story on MIBR's side is tex, who finished the match with a 4.50 rating, the lowest of any player across both series covered here, going 4 first kills against 11 first deaths and a -13 plus/minus. That kind of entry deficit — dying first far more often than winning the opening duel — is difficult for any roster to play around, and it shows up directly in MIBR's inability to force a third map.

Both results leave the Lower Bracket a round thinner. With G2 through at Leviatán's expense and LOUD advancing at MIBR's, the next round of Lower Bracket matchups — and confirmation of who those two winners face next — has not yet been announced as of publication.
